A Real Loser?

Philippians 3:7-8 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ... These Bible verses say just the opposite of what "the world" says about loss. We often hear that any kind of a loss is a bad thing and should be avoided if possible, and often this is true. I'm sure "the world" thought the same way in the Apostle Paul's time as it does today. But here Paul says he counted everything he had as loss when compared to knowing Christ, because in Christ he had forgiveness of his sins and eternal life in Heaven. Most of us find it difficult to think this way as we spend our lives figuring out how to gain more things. God doesn't forbid us to have things as long as we always put him first, and remember that all we have is a blessing from him. What could the world offer, or what could we obtain, that would be as valuable as peace with God through his son Jesus Christ? As we are told in Matthew 16:26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? The world may sometimes regard us as losers, but Christ says we are always winners when we come to him. archive.wels.net
